Wednesday, January18th and Tuesday, January 10th

Clasess began a role play around the 1934 West Coast Longshore Strike.

Students read background information; formed into groups, and began researching and working to understand their own roles, and the roles of other groups in Portland in regards the strike.

Mr. Zartler announced the following revised dates for the unit summative assessment:
Summative Assessment assigned: Thursday/ Friday 19/20 January. Summative Assessment (Narrative) due on the day of each classes final exam.

It's been snowing....

So ... hey, ignore previous due dates.

We'll talk about what's next and when next class; see you on Tuesday and Wednesday! (Finally!)

BTW, I did not have your last essays with me when I last left school. I will have them all evaluaated next Monday.

January 5/6

The class worked in small groups on a analyzing and interpreting clues amounting to an historical mystery in a midwest city between 1910 and 1920.

Thursday, was guest taught by Ms. Robbins.

January 3/4

Classes were given the following notice:

The summative assessment for the Progressive Era-Labor Unit will be handed out on Tuesday or Wednesday January 17 or 18. The narrative will be due January 24-26 depending on which day each class meets that week.

The class then studied the Wobblies (IWW) strike in Lawerence, MA in 1912. The focus on the analyses was on the motivation and values of the IWW.

So, what with all the snow I seem to have missed updating the blog.

During the last week of school in December classes concluded their studying-role play of the Homestead Strike.

We also finished viewing and analyzing the slide show of images revolving around turn of the century immigration and labor issues.
